History of N62-26, Amazing Grace

The vessel was commissioned September, 2003 and piloted by PAE personnel with the initial owners aboard, to La Paz, Mexico. Dan Streech, PAE's President, was aboard and wrote an engaging story about the trip that was published on the PAE website. The vessel was returned to Dana Point by a professional captain in 2004. When the vessel was offered for sale, the main engine registered approx. 300 hours.

The current owners purchased N62-26 in March, 2005 and christened her “Amazing Grace”. The interior was upgraded with custom carpets, wood shutters and leather appointments.

A professional captain accompanied the new owners to Ensenada, Mexico until June, 2005. During that time, the owners received formal operating instruction and achieved official competency status to operate the vessel independently in coastal waters. Amazing Grace was then piloted north to San Francisco and then on to Anacortes WA in June, 2005. Since that time, she has plied the waters from the San Juan Islands north through Canadian waters to Alaska.

The vessel is utilized 2-5 weeks at a time, spring thru fall. A typical trip takes Amazing Grace to a remote area, where few other pleasure boats travel. She drops anchor in secluded locations for days at a time; the owners use her as a base for exploring the area by tender to Amazing Grace, christened, "Grace".

Maintenance

The vessel is maintained to a high standard. The owners take an active interest in preventative care and regular maintenance, seeking out the advice of professionals on a scheduled basis.



Amazing Grace is hauled periodically for inspection, re-zinc, and bottom-painting. Haul outs have occurred in Newport Beach, Sidney and Bellingham, the last inspection performed May, 2011 (Pettit SR Pro paint and Prop Speed).



Annual engine-room maintenance includes:

•Sea strainers cleaned, typically twice per season
•Oil/filter changes to Main, Wing and Gen-sets
•Pencil zincs as required, annual & 3-month intervals
•General inspection by professional mechanics, noting recommendations and comments for additional preventative maintenance. Most recent inspection of this type was completed by Philbrooks Boatyard in June, 2011
•Impellers are routinely changed every two years
A library of manuals for each system is maintained aboard. Additionally, an Owner's Manual dedicated specifically to N62-26's installed systems, compiled by the builders, is the world's best example of a useful text.



The deck is maintained to a high standard with a constant eye to preventative maintenance.

•The 400 ft main anchor chain has been reversed end-to-end, davit cable to the 1000 Kg davit has been replaced and new rigging lines for the flopper-stopper system have been installed
•New covered aft-deck canvas installed by Philbrooks in 2010
•The 15' Caribe tender is serviced annually.
•Fiberglass hull polished, UV protectant applied to the tubes
•Outboard engine (60 HP Yamaha) fully serviced, battery moved indoors to a battery-tender
The starboard bow is outfitted with a custom-built motorcycle cradle in stainless-steel that accommodates virtually any brand or size. Off/on-loading a motorcycle to the dock by way of the davit/crane (also utilized to off/on-load the tender) can be accomplished in minutes.
